While we identify the end of summer with the first week of school and the Labor Day holiday, autumn actually starts on September 22 at 8:09pm (PDT) and ends on December 21 at 3:38pm (PST)1. September, October and November are colored a golden yellow in our minds as the leaves fall from the trees while the sunsets turn the skies orange with shortening days and the first cold nights after summer has gone.
